— Voters in Anderson and Pickens counties will be hitting the polls once again for two primary runoff elections Tuesday.

Incumbent Bob Waldrep will face attorney Raymond MacKay in a runoff for the Republican nomination for the Anderson County Council District 1 seat. There is no Democratic challenger, so the winner likely will take the seat in January.

In the June 10 Republican Primary, Waldrep received 1,958 votes, or 45.8 percent, while MacKay received 2,092 votes, or 49 percent. A third candidate, Brooks Brown, received 221 votes.

Katy Smith, director of Anderson County Registration and Elections, said the same voters that voted in the County Council District 1 primary are expected to vote in the runoff, but there are other factors that play a role in voter turnout.

“Influences such as vacation, the weather, media coverage, what contests are on the ballot are some typical factors that usually play a role in voters turning out to vote,” Smith said.

Smith said election results will be tabulated at the Civic Center of Anderson.

Pat Welborn and Ben Finley are facing off for the Pickens County clerk of court seat today. The two candidates had the highest number of votes of four Republican candidates in the June 10 primary. Welborn got 4,887 votes in the June 10 primary; Finley had 3,586.The winner likely will be the county's next clerk of court as there is no Democratic Party contender in the Nov. 4 general election.

Polling places in both counties will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Anyone with questions regarding the Anderson runoff can call the Anderson County Voter Registration Office (864) 260-4035. In Pickens County, the number is Phone: (864) 898-5948
