— Electoral races were decided Tuesday in several Anderson municipalities.

Carthel “Coach” Crout edged out incumbent Phillip Clardy and fellow challenger Otis Scott in the race for the Williamston mayor’s spot.

Crout won with 668 votes compared with 403 for Clardy and 244 for Scott, according to unofficial results from Tuesday’s election. Both Scott and Crout are Williamston Town Council members.

Crout said during a mayoral debate in October that he wanted to provide leadership to the whole town as opposed to certain sections of it. Clardy said at the debate that he loved his hometown.

Scott said during his campaign that the town has seen better days, and that he wanted to create a vision that would help residents come together.

In Honea Path, three Town Council seats also were up for grabs. Incumbent Sonny Davis won the race for the Ward 1 seat with 643 votes to 337 for Steve Hanks and 167 for James Ross, according to unofficial results from Tuesday’s election.

Brad Haynes won the race for the Ward 3 seat with 459 votes compared with 387 for Jean Perrett and 280 for Kenneth Tyner, according to unofficial results. Incumbent Bettye Mattison chose not to run for re-election in Ward 3.

Dot Evans won the race for the Ward 5 seat with 462 votes compared with 363 for incumbent Gary Branyon, 192 for Thomas Cooley and 114 for Jim Ritter, according to unofficial results.

In Starr, Mayor Richard Thompson won his re-election bid.

Ed Sokol and Adam Thompson, son of the mayor, both won re-election to the Town Council. Robbie Adams and Jarrett Stone also won election to the council.

Congratulations to Mayor-elect Crout.
Now is the time for the city to do what the Council of Governments recommended two years ago. Lower their salaries to the mean (standard) for towns under 5,000 population.
Then maybe Belton council will lower its exhorbitant salaries.

Now hang on ElCid.

Anyone want to ask Clardy how much he has cost the Town of Williamston by demanding MULTIPLE recounts? If not the Town, who is going to pay for his recounts (as I understand, recounts are not free)? I sincerely hope Clardy will go quietly into the night and allow Coach Crout to do what he does best: WORK WITH PEOPLE!

Congratulations Coach!
