CLINTON - The Belton –Honea Path Bears saw their playoff run come to an end Friday night in Clinton as the Red Devils defeated the Bears, 28-14.

B-HP’s first possession of the quarter saw the Bears going three and out with two passes almost intercepted by Clinton defenders.

BHP coaches, players and fans booed what they saw as a bad call when B-HP punted the ball and it appeared Kenneth Sanders of Clinton touched the ball and BHP fell on it. However, officials ruled it as a no touch and the ball went to Clinton.

B-HP began to drive the ball toward the end of the first half but it came to an end when quarterback Nino Woolridge fumbled the ball with 3:43 to go in the first.

Trobias Brown of Clinton scored with 37 seconds to go in the half to give Clinton a 14-0 lead, which they took into the locker.

The second half saw B-HP take the kickoff and drive down the field, scoring on a 3-yard run by Charles Lindsey to cut the score 14-7 on a drive that took close to 10 minutes off the clock.

Clinton responded on their next drive with a quick drive down the field with Clinton’s Matt Ligon scoring to put Clinton back up 21-7 with 8:42 to go in the game.

B-HP then came back down the field quickly as Woolridge completed a 29-yard touchdown pass to cut the lead back to 7 with 7:03 to go in the game.

Clinton scored the final points of the night when a 4th and inches play saw Ligon take the ball in for a score from 29 yards out, handing Clinton a 28-14 lead with 2:38 to go.

After the game B-HP coach Wayne Green commented on this being the youngest team that he has ever coached and how he was proud of the seniors that had stuck with him through the season.

He said all the players gave everything they had even when facing adversity.
