I was very disappointed and disturbed by the profanity in your editorial cartoon today (Nov. 5). Substituting the word “Gawd” for “God” does not make it any more acceptable. Furthermore, the words “m’gawd” were totally unnecessary as any number of other phrases expressing dismay would have gotten the point across.
One of your jobs as a newspaper is to raise the level of public discourse, not perpetuate the current, discouraging level of cultural debasement.

Is anybody else reminded of the Muslims getting mad over another cartoon?
Oh m'gawd!
My only objection to this particular usage is that it seems to further the unwanted & inaccurate stereotype of ignorance in this region of the country.
That which offends you only weakens you. If you’re looking for occasions to be offended, you’ll find them at every turn.

A very valid point - but I can't help it, I'm particularly sensitive to any type of humor that perpetuates the stereotypes of southerners as slow speaking and slow thinking individuals. We've dealt with this innacurate portrayal for so long and I just get tired of it.
