Pastor needs help providing for his family

— On Sundays, John stands before his small congregation and gives those in the pews the spiritual nourishment they need.

Now, this Christmas, he and his wife are asking for a little help of their own. John is legally blind and is unable to go out to find part-time work, his wife, Sarah, said. She cannot work outside the home, because she takes care of her husband.

What John makes in the pulpit doesn’t cover all their needs — at least not this season.

So they have turned to the Brighter Christmas Fund for help. They have three boys, a 4-year-old, a 6-year-old and a 15-year-old. And all John and Sarah want is for them to have some clothes, shoes and a few toys under the tree this year.

To help John and Sarah or a family like theirs, send a donation to the Brighter Christmas Fund. Donations should be mailed to SunTrust Bank, 907 N. Main St., Anderson, SC 29621 to the attention of the Brighter Christmas Fund. Those wanting to donate specific items, such as appliances or furniture, may call (864) 607-2913.

People who need help may call (864) 607-2913 or they may apply in person at 100 Miracle Mile Drive, Suite B, in Anderson. The office, located to the side of the old Farr Music store, will be open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Applications will be accepted through Dec. 5.

Each day a list of the donations received will be published in the Anderson Independent-Mail.
