Mother of 7 has hours cut, still going to college

Some people might want to have their work hours cut back a little while they are trying to earn a college degree.

Not Georgia.

She has seven children to raise — six daughters and one son. The twins are the youngest at 5 years old. Her oldest child is her 15-year-old daughter. And with $1,261 in bills going out each month and only $1,207 coming in, she operates every month in a deficit. So she needs all the work hours she can be assigned while also trying to earn a degree at Tri-County Technical College.

Those hours were cut from the full 40 hours a week to 30 a week, however, and once those bills are paid, nothing is left.

All of that adds up to what she is afraid will be a sad Christmas for her children. She has asked for help from the Brighter Christmas Fund, for a little money to her seven children some clothes, some new shoes and a few toys.

To help Georgia or someone like her, send a donation to the Brighter Christmas Fund. Those wanting to donate specific items, such as appliances or furniture, may call (864) 607-2913.

People who need help may call (864) 607-2913 or may apply in person at 100 Miracle Mile Drive, Suite B, in Anderson. The office, located to the side of the old Farr Music store, will be open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Applications will be accepted through Dec. 5.

Each day a list of the donations received will be published in the Independent-Mail.
