ANDERSON Anderson police arrested a 23-year-old woman around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday when she was caught doing 70 mph on a cramped, two-lane city street framed by an embankment to railroad tracks on one side and houses on the other.
Jessica Smith of Acker Road is charged with a second offense of driving with a suspended license, operating an uninsured vehicle, possession of crank and reckless driving, according to records at the Anderson City Jail.
According to the incident report, the speed limit on Bleckley Street, where the incident for which Smith is charged took place, is 35 mph. A radar unit detected Smith's Mercedes at 72 mph, according to the report.
Smith told Officer Greg Williamson that “she was trying to get to the Free Clinic to pick up her girlfriend,” who was walking when “it was too cold for her to be walking,” according to the report.
During a search at the Anderson City Jail, police found three capsules in Smith's pocket. Smith told police that the capsules were Prozac, because “she had issues,” Williamson wrote in his report.
