Anderson authorities investigating possible gunshot wound at youth baseball game

STORY TOOLS

— The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a possible shooting Saturday at a youth baseball game.

Around noon Saturday, sheriff’s deputies were called to the Wren Youth Association baseball field along Lake Road in the Powdersville/Piedmont area when a 30-year-old white male reported he had possibly been shot in the hip area. The man was transported to the Greenville Hospital System for treatment of injuries not considered to be life-threatening, said Susann Griffin, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman.

Authorities will not know officially what the cause of the injury was until the object is removed from the man’s body.

As of Saturday night, authorities believed the incident was accidental but were investigating all possibilities, Griffin said. No one at the scene heard a gunshot, she said.

“We do not think this was maliciously intended whatsoever,” she said.
