Fran Mainella has been elected to the National Park Trust board of trustees. Mainella is one of three new members elected to the board. Her duties will include conservation activities and promoting the trust’s mission to ensure that “everyone will have an American park experience.”
Mainella has been a visiting scholar in the parks, recreation and tourism management department at Clemson University since 2006. She teaches a graduate course titled “Nature Deficit Disorder: implications on human well-being.”
Mainella was previously the 16th director of the National Parks Service for six years. She was the first woman to hold that position. Mainella also served 12 years as the Florida State Park System director.
