Student approves site for new middle school

STORY TOOLS

I am a 7th-grade honor student and athlete at McCants Middle School. I am also a Star Scout with Boy Scout Troop 215 in Anderson.

Our middle school is rapidly growing with students and is feeling the negative effects of overcrowding. In fact, McCants Middle School is over capacity by at least 500 students. Overcrowding affects school safety and the quality of the learning environment. Anderson School District 5 is trying to build a new school.

One of the options is on Old Williamston Road in front of Cobbs Glenn Subdivision. This area of Anderson is growing rapidly and is perfect for building a new school. The school district has already spent a lot of money and time making sure that this land is suitable and meets the criteria for school zones.

The quality of public education affects all people because we are the future leaders of our community. Right now, we rely on current leaders to make the best decisions for us. I am not old enough to vote, but I am old enough to share my opinion.

Andrew Samstag, Anderson
