Three people are seeking an at-large seat on the Anderson City Council during the election Tuesday.

In Franklin County, a recount or a runoff election could be in the works in the hotly contested race for the County Commission chairman post.

Contested Hart County races in Tuesday’s election included those for seats on the county commission and board of education as well as for the positions of clerk of superior court and chief magistrate.

In what was an uneventful day at the polls, Hart County voters supported the 1-cent sales tax for another five years to help raise money for the local schools.

Polls open at 7 a.m. Tuesday and close at 7 p.m.

Primary elections are today; absentee ballots must be received by Monday.

This year will mark the third time Democrats Barry L. Haston and Melvin Andrews face off for the sheriff's position.
